What we treat

Stress, burnout, anxiety and low mood

We manage anxiety, depression, grief, insomnia, stress and burnout (including caregiver burnout) at a primary care level. Visits are long enough to talk about them, and the follow-up continues.

Common situations

What people bring us

  • Mood raised at the very end of a visit, with no time left to work on it.
  • A prescription with no follow-up to find out whether it helped or how you are tolerating it.
  • Caregiver burnout left unnamed, because the appointment was about your parent.

How we approach it

What your care includes

01

Mood can be the reason for the visit

This is often the thing people mention with their hand on the door. Here it can be the reason for the visit.

02

We check the physical causes

Thyroid, sleep, anemia, medication effects and hormonal change all produce what looks exactly like low mood or anxiety.

03

We schedule the follow-up

If we start something, we find out how it went, rather than leaving you to report back if it did not work.

04

Caregiver burnout counts

If you are managing someone else's care, the toll on you is a legitimate reason to be seen.

When to come in

If this has been going on for months rather than weeks, or you are managing someone else's care and it is affecting your own health.

Questions

What people ask about stress, burnout and mood

Is this the same as seeing a psychiatrist?

No. This is primary-care-level management: evaluation, common medications, and follow-up. We are not psychiatry and we do not provide ongoing psychotherapy. Where you need specialty care we refer and stay involved.

Will you prescribe psychiatric medication?

Yes, for common conditions that belong in primary care, and with the follow-up that should come with it. More complex situations belong with a psychiatrist, and we will say so.
