Hi there! I’m Dr. Danielle Grossman-Stuart, the newest concierge physician to join Naples Concierge Health. I am excited to have a platform to share my unique perspective on healthcare, shaped by a background in nutrition, rigorous training in a busy trauma center, and travel all over the globe. I will be writing here regularly so that you can get to know me and pick up something useful along the way.
Fresh mangoes from a lovely neighbor, lightning storms, our first power outage. Spotting gators, snakes, turtles, rabbits, and all kinds of birds right in the neighborhood, not to mention a deer on the golf course who trusted my swing way too much. After seven years away and a stressful cross-country move, these moments feel like the quintessential welcome home to Florida.
During the disruption of unpacking our lives, I have been leaning on simple, daily practices to stay grounded. It is what I encourage members my patients to do: find ways to be present, breathe, and anchor yourself. For me, it all comes down to nourishment through food, movement, connection, and nature. It looks like morning and evening dog walks, family dinners, and pickleball with my parents. It is prioritizing house plants before the boxes are even emptied, sipping tea in the backyard while the cat explores, stretching on the bare living room floor, and pausing to watch the sunset and breathe.
There is real physiology behind these small rituals, which is why I consistently return to them. The body interprets the friction of major life transitions as instability, causing the nervous system to brace itself. What helps most is regulation. While there are many ways to train this, I always recommend starting with the most accessible tool you have: your breath.
Breathing is a rare physiological function. It runs on autopilot, yet you can take deliberate control of it to shift your physical state. As you inhale, your heart rate slightly quickens; as you exhale, it slows. Lengthening your exhale amplifies this calming effect. It signals the vagus nerve which tells the heart to slow down gently easing the body out of its state of alarm. Slow, paced breathing does this reliably. Try inhaling for four seconds and exhaling for six, continuing for a minute or two. You don’t need a heart monitor to feel the shift. A few of those slow breaths on that bare living room floor settled my mind far more than another hour of unpacking ever could.
Settling into the new office has been grounding in its own right. Walking in for the first time, I was struck by the absence of that cold, sterile atmosphere so common in medical clinics. Instead, the space has warm smiles, comfortable chairs, healthy snacks, and ample natural light. I have loved getting to know our staff and watching a new daily rhythm take shape. Above all, I am grateful for the opportunity to sit down with patients without the pressure of a clock rushing us along.
If we haven’t met yet, I look forward to it.
